INT - Important regatta news

April 23, 2020, 9:25 p.m.

Hi 500s,

As we navigate this unprecedented time, the RS500 International Board would like to inform you about the impact of COVID-19 on the international RS500 calendar.

  1. World Championships 2020 : you may have red today that the organizing authority for Travemünde Woche has announced the cancellation of this year’s event and with it the cancellation of our World Championships. We have been in contact with the organizing committee as the worldwide situation has been evolving and support them fully in their decision. We are of course disappointed that we will not be able to compete and party with each other this year in Germany. The international nature of our competition and the safety of our sailors and families being our number one priority leaves the organisers and us with no choice but to call off this year’s World Championships.
The international board will be holding a conference call with the National Chairs on the 5th of May to determine if we hold the World Championships in Travemünde next year or compete in Italy as originally planned.
For more details please see the Travemünde website and we will provide you with more information when we have it. Link: Travemüder Woche 2020.
  2. EUROCUP 2020 : the COVID-19 virus strikes again! Due to the subsequent cancellations of stage 1 in France, stage 2 in Italy and stage 3 in Germany, the International Board has cancelled the RS500 EUROCUP 2020 competition. As enthusiastic sailors we deeply regret this decision, but we can only rely on force majeure. Safety first!
  3. New RS500 class structure : last but not least, the good news! After a long and intensive period, the International Board is proud to announce the new RS500 class structure. On April 17th 2020, the RS500 class became an independent sailing class under Dutch law, called RS500 INTERNATIONAL CLASS ASSOCIATION. This link wil bring you to the Dutch version of the signed deed (the English version will follow soon). Honestly, this act will not speed up our 500s, but it will reinforce the sustainability of our beloved sailing class.

As stated above, the International Board together with your national representatives will consult on May 5th 2020 at 8:00 PM CET. Major topics on the agenda: membership fee 2020, AGM 2020 and EUROCUP 2021 (including Worlds 2021). The International Board kindly requests all national representatives to join this important meeting. The invitation will pop-up in your mailbox!

Any doubt or question, do not hesitate to contact us by replying this email.

Stay Strong and sail in to 2021!

      Your International Board
